INTRODUCTION

Year of establishment: 2009

The department was established for postgraduate studies as a new speciality by the MCI and this was the 3rd department of EM to be established in the country and has been training Emergency Physicians since 2011.  

Emergency Medicine (EM) is a rapidly expanding and exciting specialty concerned with the initial diagnosis and management of the acute and urgent aspects of illness and injury affecting patients of all age groups with the full spectrum of undifferentiated physical and behavioural disorders.

It is the specialty in which time is critical.

Emergency Physicians are able to look after patients with a wide range of pathologies from the life-threatening to the self-limiting.
